About katenerdypoo

I teach middle grades and high school math in the Netherlands, both within the Dutch national curriculum (in English) and within the International Baccalaureate Middle Years & Diploma Programs. I’ve been working in the Netherlands for four years, but before that I taught in a 6-12 school in the South Bronx in NYC for three years.

Previous to becoming a math teacher I worked for 6 years in the music industry and actually have my bachelor’s degree in clarinet. I still devote about 1/4 of my time to making music.

I want to keep learning and developing as an educator, and find an online community to help me do so, and this blog is my attempt at that. I also tweet at @nerdypoo and have a less long-form blog (but full of fun math gifs and whatnot!) on tumblr also at nerdypoo. Drop a line anywhere!

I found your blog from your comment on dy/dan central park.
I have just read almost all of it.
    I am following you now.
Here in the USA they are all going round in circles about the Common Core, and transformation geometry. I am going to post an excerpt and a link to your post on this. It should give them something to think about.
My blog is called “Saving School Math”, with the aim of fixing some of the mathematical and logical content errors around, but via Dan and David Wees I have become very interested in approach and treatment (sounds a bit medical!). You might find something of interest there.
Oh, and “I’m no good at this” feeling has been my way quite a few times.
